Consider Our Beloved Savior’s gift for all of us at His
Resurrection. By His Father’s saving grace, the plan for our salvation is set in place through the loving obedience of His Son, Jesus.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in
his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you… 1
Peter 1:3-4
Easter is our most central Christian feast day when we faith-
fully embrace this sacred truth! Our gratitude and joy at Easter
fulfill our deepest hopes and longing that we shall one day be
embraced by Jesus in Heaven according to the Father’s plan. Jesus rising at Easter is the Father’s gift that sin and death shall not
prevail. Let us rejoice!
The celebration begins at the Easter Vigil service, which marks
the end of Holy Week when we solemnly remember the passion
and suffering of our Lord. On this special night, we welcome new
members into the Church. The Bishop or priest administers the
Sacraments of Baptism (if not yet baptized), First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
We are invited to celebrate with these new Catholic Christians
through our songs of Alleluia, enthusiastic clapping, and, sometimes, the ringing of bells. There is much gratitude and rejoicing.
“I remember how filled with wonder and joy I felt when I
received the sacred oil drawn as a cross on my forehead. Four
of us, dressed in white garments, stood before the congregation
and said our confirmation names to the Bishop.” A convert to the
faith expresses her feelings as she was accepted into the Catholic
faith.
“For me, the Catholic Church is home. It is the reason I came
to this place. I searched other denominations throughout my life.
When I entered the Church, I was finally home.”
Perhaps this Easter, we can all summon sacred memories of
God’s goodness to us as we come to worship. The Holy Spirit
empowers us through grace to grow in the spiritual gifts from
Baptism: faith, hope, and love. At Confirmation, we receive the
strength to be firm in our Catholic faith and to fulfill our mission
as Christ’s witnesses in the world in how we live our daily lives.
In our response to being channels of God’s love, our gifts can
readily flow. This outpouring blesses our neighbors worldwide.
- Pray for our new Catholic friends whom we welcome into
the faith. - Call to mind the gifts that you receive from the Sacraments.
- Be confident and embrace the sacramental life that em-
powers us to live as Jesus.
